OLD CITYの外、北側に、NEW CITY、Jedeide Quarter と呼ばれる地区がある。マムルーク時代後期に建設されたのでNew Cityとも、またキリスト教徒地区とも呼ばれており、ベネチア貿易の仲買人としてアレッポにやってきた、マロナイト系やアルメニア系クリスチャンの邸宅が多く残っている。
スークの喧騒から離れた静かな場所にあって、両側の高い住居の石壁に挟まれた細い石畳、所々にあるヴォールトのトンネルの路地は、アレッポで最も魅力的な景観を呈している。

路地からは石壁と小さな門しか見えないが、住宅の内部に入ると、中央に噴水や池があるパティオを中心に広々と明るく、床・壁面・天井に色々なアラベスク装飾が見られ、外からは容易には想像できない別世界が広がっている。
中庭には、樹や葡萄などの樹が植えられ木陰を作り出しており、一面にイワンと呼ばれる大きなヴォールトによる屋外空間が中庭に開けている。地下、１階は接客室、サービス室、浴場などの共用スペース、２階は寝室などの私的スペースとなっている。
写真は１７世紀の代表的な邸宅建築の、ガザール邸。２０世紀中頃にはアルメニア人難民を収容していたこともある。保存状態は良い方であるが、最近ここでも修復作業が開始された。Beitというのは邸宅を意味するアラビア語。

上と同様の邸宅で、現在は民俗生活博物館として、往時の生活備品を展示するとともに建物全体を一般公開している。
開館は、08:40-14:30で、休館日は火曜日。

このように残存している住宅を修復・改装し、室内、中庭、屋上などで食事できるレストランが増えてきている。ペンションのように宿泊できるレストランもあり、中世のリッチな貿易商人の気分が味わえる。地図

| Sissi House | This was the first house to be reused as a rettaurant in Jedeideh. It serves typical Alleppian food (lunch and dinner). The building dates back to the 17th century, it has a single beautiful courtyard and its rooms have elegantly renovated wooden ceilings. |
| Wakil House | Two houses has been transformed to accommodate this hotel-restaurant. The eastern courtyard has nice geometrical floor patterns and marvelously carved stone works. The rooms have beautiful 18th century painted wooden panels and ceilings, some of them were removed to be exhibited in Pergamon Museum in Berlin. In addition to fine decoration a generous menu of Aleppian food is always served here. |
| Mashrabia | This is a small cafe-restaurant that offers special local food on breakfast in addition to the regular Aleppian menu for lunch and dinner. The building has no courtyard, in summer evenings the adjacent alley is used as outdoors sitting space. |
| Kan Zaman House | This cafe-restaurant is established in a small courtyard house that is decorated with a style that combines oriental and oxidental elements. Local and western food is served here. The mezzanines over looking the main hall make a pleasant sitting area. |
軟岩をくりぬいて設けられている地下室は縦横に広がっており、バーや貯蔵庫として使われている。アレッポ城からつながっている通路もあると言われる。
春先から観光客が多く、３月半ばから５月末にかけては、ホテルは４星から１星まで予約で一杯。（９１１以降、宿が取り易くなっている。）

アラビアのロレンスが泊まったというバロンホテル。日本人が長期滞在するというので、2001年春に冷蔵庫など設備が更新された。 黄色の車はタクシー。３０年〜５０年くらい前の車がいまだに現役で走っている。最近、２０才以上のクラシックカーのタクシーはアレッポ市街乗り入れ禁止令が出された。 |

アレッポ３軒ある４星ホテルのうちのひとつアミルパレスホテル。時計台に近いダウンタウンで騒音が多いところではあるが、OLD CITY観光には便利。アレッポ城の眺望が良い。 |
